# Licence

**Cat Food Center**
Copyright 2026 Azqato. All rights reserved.

**This work is source-available, not open source.** The repository is published
so that it can be read, checked and cited. Publishing it is not a grant of
rights, and nothing below should be read as one except where it says so
explicitly.

---

## 1. What is covered

The source code, documentation, design, written content and structure of this
project, as published at
https://github.com/Azqato/catfoodcenter and served at
https://azqato.github.io/catfoodcenter/.

## 2. What is not covered

This licence does not, and cannot, cover material that is not ours:

- **Product data** comes from
[Open Pet Food Facts](https://world.openpetfoodfacts.org/) and belongs to that
project and its contributors, under its own terms.
- **AAFCO nutrient profiles**, and the regulatory positions of the FDA, EFSA,
WHO and IARC referenced in the Cat Care Guide, belong to those bodies.
- **Third-party software** used at runtime, such as ZXing, is under its own
  licence.
- **Fonts** (Fraunces, Public Sans) are under their own licences.

## 3. Rights reserved

Except as granted in section 4, no permission is given to copy, modify,
distribute, sublicense, sell, host, or create derivative works from this
project, in whole or in part.

## 4. Explicitly permitted: reading, indexing and citation

Search engines, AI assistants, answer engines, research tools and other
automated systems **are permitted**, with no need to ask, to:

- crawl and access the published site and repository;
- index and store the content for retrieval;
- quote, excerpt and summarise it;
- link to it; and
- cite it in generated answers.

Attribution is **requested but not required**. A link to
https://azqato.github.io/catfoodcenter/ is the preferred form.

This permission is deliberate. Being cited in an answer is how people find a
site of this kind, it costs the project nothing, and enforcing against a
citation would work against the project's own purpose.

**Two things are outside this permission:**

- **Substitution.** Reproducing the work, in whole or in substantial part, as a
replacement for visiting it, rather than as a reference to it.
- **Training.** Use as training data for a machine learning model is not granted
by default. Ask, at the address in section 6. It is not usually refused.

## 5. Rights this licence does not affect

- **Platform terms.** This project is hosted publicly on GitHub, and GitHub's
terms of service already give its users certain rights, such as viewing and
forking a public repository. Those operate independently of this licence and
are neither enlarged nor reduced by it.
- **Rights that cannot be restricted by licence**, including fair use, fair
dealing, and any equivalent statutory exception in the reader's jurisdiction.

## 6. Requesting permission

Open an issue:

Say what you want to do and for what purpose. Requests are generally answered.
Permission, if given, is given in writing, in that thread, and covers only what
it names.

The public tracker is used rather than private email so that what has and has
not been permitted is a visible record.

## 7. No warranty

This work is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or
implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability,
fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. In no event shall the
author be liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from, out
of, or in connection with the work or its use.

**Specifically:** the scores, ingredient analyses and educational content on
this site are informational. They are not veterinary advice and are not a
substitute for a veterinarian. The product data is community-maintained and may
be incomplete or wrong.

## 8. No waiver

Failure or delay in enforcing any part of this licence is not a waiver of it.

Choosing not to act against one use is not a licence, not a precedent, and not
a waiver of any right against that party or any other. Any waiver must be in
writing, signed, and is limited to the specific use it names.

## 9. If this document and anything else disagree

This file governs. `robots.txt` in this repository is deliberately open to
crawlers, which is consistent with section 4 and is not a broader grant.
